About Us

Our Story

After 20 years as an equine veterinarian, Dr. Keelin Hurd grew frustrated watching horse owners struggle with skin issues like rain rot, scratches, and fungal infections.
Existing products were greasy, smelly, and laden with sulfates and simply didn't work. In response, she created Medica: powerful natural ingredient solutions for treating common skin conditions in horses and dogs.
Since launch, Medica has proven to be the fastest, most effective option on the market.

Why Medica

Fast-acting. Medica kills bacteria and fungus faster than competitors.
Eliminates guesswork. Medica's sulfur, essential oils, and natural emollients treat bacterial, fungal, and allergic skin issues simultaneously.
Pleasant to use. Unlike greasy, smelly, or dusty alternatives, Medica products apply easily and smell great.
Drug-free. Horses can compete while being treated—no steroids or restricted compounds.
Gentle on skin. The keratolytic formula melts away dead skin and debris without scrubbing, leaving healthy, nourished skin.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Check out our Product Recommendation Guide for a detailed breakdown. As a general rule: use Treatment Wash if you can bathe the horse; use Lotion if bathing isn't possible (or for spot treatment); and use Salve for moist, oozy, or crusty issues, especially on the lower legs. If you are still unsure, email a photo to info@medicaequine.com.

No need! Each Medica product is formulated to stand alone as a complete treatment. We recommend stocking up on all three so you can reach for exactly the right tool for the specific situation you are dealing with.

For active skin issues, we recommend daily use until resolved (this usually happens quickly). For prevention, use Medica Treatment Wash 2–3 times a week, as well as after clipping, schooling the water jump, or other skin-triggering events.

Yes. Our products are formulated with ingredients generally considered safe and compliant for competition use. However, because regulations change, we always recommend checking the ingredient list against your specific association’s current prohibited substance list.

Our products are shelf-stable for one year when stored properly. Keep them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. While they are "barn tough," try to avoid letting them freeze or sit in extreme heat (like a hot trailer) for extended periods.

We typically process orders within 1–2 business days. Once shipped, domestic orders usually arrive within 3–5 business days. You’ll receive a tracking number via email as soon as your package leaves our facility.

We may be able to make special arrangements for large orders, but generally no, it's prohibitively expensive and time consuming.

We are so sorry! Please snap a photo of the damaged product and the box it came in, and email us right away at info@medicaequine.com. We will get a replacement sent out to you immediately.

We stand behind our products. If you are unsatisfied for any reason, please contact us within 30 days of receipt. While we generally cannot accept physical returns on opened veterinary products for safety reasons, please reach out to us so we can make it right.
